Challenges

Seeding Competition 2017

The Seeding Competition challenges teams to produce an unmanned, robotic device (aka “agBOT”) that will:

  1. Autonomously plant two or four 1000-ft rows of corn at a time and autonomously turn at each end. The planter shall make four 1000-ft passes
  2. Change seed variety per prescription
  3. Change seed population per prescription
  4. Stream real time video from both the front and rear of agBOT
  5. Have the ability to autonomously dock and load two varieties of seed and starter fertilizer, while weighing the seed and fertilizer and communicating in stream

Weed & Feed Competition

The Weed and Feed Competition challenges teams to produce an unmanned, robotic device (aka “agBOT”) that will:

  1. Autonomously maneuver two or four 1000-ft rows at a time and autonomously turn at each end. The agBOT shall make four 1000-ft passes at a speed between three and a half to ten miles per hour
  2. Autonomously observe crop plants and fertilize plants as needed
  3. Identify three common weeds: giant ragweed, cocklebur and a third to be announced, within the row and between the rows
  4. Arrange for weed to die either chemically or mechanically as the agBOT moves throughthe field
  5. Provide real time observation methods of fertilizing and/or treating the plants back to the base station
