Dr. Nares is an associate member of Consultants in Economics
and Organization (CEO), a private consulting firm that specializes
in strategic planning and organizational reforms for Latin American
businesses and industries. Prior to his current position, he
served as Director General of the International Center for T ropical
Agriculture (CIA T). The Center is a leading international
research institution whose mission is to help reduce widespread
poverty and make future food supplies more secure.
While a student at Purdue University, Dr. Nares was twice lauded
by the American Agricultural Economics Association. Both his
masters and doctoral theses won the outstanding dissertation
awards from the Association.
Early in his career, Dr. Nares was an agricultural advisor to the
Minister of Economics in Argentina and vice president of the
National Meat Board. At the same time, he served as a professor
at the Argentinean Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences and
the National Agricultural Research Institute.
His career has been one of academic service to his country and,
more recently, to the international agricultural community as a
professional researcher, research administrator and consultant to
agribusiness. From 1976 to 1987, he held a number of positions
with CIAT. From 1987 to 1990, Dr. Nares headed his own
consulting firm in Argentina.
He has served on the boards of the International Fertilizer Development
Center and the International Council for Research in
Agroforestry. He has also been a member of the steering committee
for the Kellogg International Fellowship Program in Food
Systems and a member of the Technical Advisory Committee of
the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research.
