Graduate Student Profile
Jessica Merzdorf is a Master’s degree student studying science communication under the guidance of Dr. Linda Pfeiffer. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Purdue’s Speech, Language, and Hearing Science department with the intention to become a clinical audiologist, but after realizing that her true passion was for writing and speaking about the science she was learning, she transferred to ASEC. She currently works as a graduate research assistant in the Pfeiffer Lab, investigating the role of media and risk communication in decision-making during times of crisis. In the past, she has worked as a news writer for Purdue Agriculture’s Media Relations and Public Information Unit and participated in research on a variety of topics, from language development in toddlers with cochlear implants, to reintegration and spousal communication in National Guard families who underwent an overseas deployment.
