Gebisa Ejeta: Science Envoy
September 29, 2010
Gebisa Ejeta, distinguished professor of agronomy and 2009 World Food Prize laureate, was among three people nationwide selected as a science envoy for the U.S. State Department. He is the only agricultural appointee.
The announcement was made by Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., at the request of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Under the U.S. Science Envoy Program, participants collaborate on programs that develop new sources of energy, create green jobs, digitize records, clean water and grow new crops in developing countries. The initiative, which Clinton announced in November 2009, reflects a commitment to global engagement in science and technology.
