Notes

The goal of the Natural Resources Leadership Institute is to develop leaders within the natural resources communities who can build collaborative relationships with others around contentious issues. By applying the skills learned in the program, NRLDI graduates will be more knowledgeable about how to work collaboratively with others, build consensus, and find sustainable solutions to complex environmental issues.

Although the goal of the Leadership Development Certificate Program is to enhance undergraduate leadership skills, the leadership competencies, structure of the program, and the self-assessment instrument may be helpful in developing rural community leadership programs.

The Leadership Development Institute is a state-wide program of the Indiana Conservation Partnership intended to enhance the leadership skills of the Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors. The program is conducted in collaboration with the Indiana State Department of Agriculture and Purdue Extension.

The 14 leadership development workshop modules were created for undergraduate students to teach other students. The content of the modules, however, may be appropriate for youth or adult leadership programs in rural areas.
