TITLE: State Export Intern
The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) will offer a paid spring internship to a college student who wants to learn more about international trade and exporting of Indiana food and agricultural products.
LOCATION: Indianapolis, Indiana
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The internship is through the State Export Intern Program with the Food Export Association of the Midwest, USA (Food Export Midwest). The intern will be contracted directly with Food Export Midwest and work under the supervision of ISDA's international trade program manager in Indianapolis. The intern will work with ISDA state staff and staff from Food Export Midwest. The intern shall participate in a series of telephone conference calls and internet training sessions through Food Export Midwest. The intern will be given the opportunity to exercise initiative and judgment in carrying out responsibilities described in the scope of work.
SCOPE OF WORK
v Hold one-on-one discussions with companies about exporting opportunities and available assistance
v Assist ISDA staff administering statewide export-readiness survey
v Collect information for State/Food Export Midwest newsletters and websites
v Promote and recruit companies to participate in ongoing and event-based State/Food Export Midwest services
v Collect evaluations from companies that have participated in Food Export Midwest activities
v Generate success stories from companies that have participated in Food Export Midwest activities
v Organize and recruit for State/Food Export Midwest export seminars and other events
v Obtain written permission from companies to receive information on State/Food Export Midwest programs and services
v Submit monthly activity/progress reports to Food Export Midwest
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants for the internship should have a major related to agriculture, international relations, business or economics. The ideal candidate will need to be detail-oriented, outgoing, have the ability to work well with all types of people and be a self-starter. The individual must be mature-minded with at least one year of college completed (30 credit hours). The intern must be a student and must be a U.S. citizen or have a visa that permits the individual to work.
v Will be paid $11.50/hour
v Can work 10-12 weeks during the spring term
v Is expected to work 2-3 days per week, depending on any additional class requirements, etc.
v Is responsible for transportation to and from work.
v Is responsible for housing or transportation expenses.
