Position: Grain Originator Location: Goodland Indiana

Job Level: Mid Career (2+ years) Years of Experience: 2-5 years

Level of Education: BA/BS Starting Date: ASAP

Find, educate and consult with producers and end users of agricultural products to expand market share by building

relationships with producers and procuring grain.

This is a relationship job and a deal making job. As a Grain Originator, 50% of your time will be spent calling on farmers in

person on their farm. You will be the creative grain marketing expert who knows all the different ways a farmer can contract

and sell grain. With this knowledge and expertise, you will help the farmers get a good price for their grain, manage their risk,

and manage their cash flow.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business


Develop a client base through on farm visits, meetings, presentations and referrals.

Analyze and recommend risk management strategies and assist with the development of marketing plans for


Assist the grain division on the origination of commodities.

Provide hedging opportunities for producers through a partnership with a qualified brokerage firm.

Explain agricultural markets, local basis, commodity trading and the concepts behind marketing.

Make presentations to a variety of producers and agriculture-related groups.

Make cold calls in country, office phone calls and assist with customer walk in business.

Help farmers get the most out of their grain, have customers best interest in mind, build relationships with farmers

that will last long-term.

Develop and maintain customer marketing plans.

Provide customer service and act as one of the primary points of contact for customers including resolving customer

issues and complaints.

Execute grain contracts.

Assist Grain Manager and Merchandiser in their goals, objectives, and responsibilities as assigned.

Assist in maintaining accurate records and documents related to the grain transactions and daily position reports.

Develop work habits that create, build and support the go to market strategy within the organization.

Experience and Skills:


Bachelors degree in agricultural related field preferred: or a combination of education and/or experience.

Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to build successful relationships.

Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and capable of learning company specific software.

Ability to maintain current business and desire to develop new business.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to work well within strict time frames, despite numerous interruptions.

Ability to make presentations in front of groups often.

Detail oriented and able to process work accurately with minimal errors.

Strong analysis skills and ability to accurately calculate information.

Ability to work without supervision and make appropriate decisions.

Strives for excellence in performance of responsibilities and in meeting company needs.
