We are a locally owned private grain company located in Eastern Ohio who is now expanding into Illinois. We currently purchase grain from producers in 22 Ohio counties, condition and store it, and merchandise it to end users and export markets from New England to the Gulf of Mexico. We recently expanded our origination and merchandising with the purchase of 3 elevators in East Central Illinois. One of the Illinois locations is a new high speed 90 car CSXT train loading station.
The basics of our business:
We purchase corn and soybeans in Eastern Ohio and East Central Illinois.
Our Five Year Goal:
We will continue to expand our draw areas in both Ohio and Illinois and have a goal of growing our volume to about 15-20,000,000 bushels of annual origination.
We have an immediate opening for a grain originator. The candidate for this position will be responsible for contacting grain producers in both Illinois and Ohio for the purpose of originating grain (corn and beans) to be delivered to any of our 5 grain elevators located in East Central Illinois and East Central Ohio.
Candidate will help producers develop marketing strategies, keep them up to date on price changes, and inform them of any changes to delayed price rates, discount schedules, unload hours, etc.
The majority of the candidate's time will be spent calling (telephone) producers and purchasing their grain. Our company has a customer base of nearly 1200 producers in Ohio and about 300 in Illinois. The candidate will work with 2 other grain buyers who are servicing these producers. The goal of the grain buyers is to expand our customer base and increase our total bushels volume.
From time to time the candidate will be asked to assist with other duties such as weighing and grading trucks, attending producer meetings and assisting with minor operations functions at some of the grain elevators we operate.
Desired Qualifications of the Applicant:
A Degree in Agriculture or Business, familiarity with grain elevator and farming operations, knowledge of grain futures and options markets, familiarity with basis levels and their importance to the grain business, a self-starter who is energetic and not afraid to pick up the phone and make calls, a desire to learn more about the grain business and grow into a merchandising/management position.

Salary Level: $30-40,000 per year depending upon qualifications and market expertise.
