Schwartz Inspires Students to Commit to Honor Pledge

Written By Madison Hire

Stephen Schwartz (Junior; Agribusiness Management; Noblesville, IN, pictured bottom left) has been involved with the Purdue Honor Pledge Task Force for the past two years. He is part of a group of eight Purdue Students who are looking to preserve the culture of excellence that the university has been promoting. Schwartz said, “This Task Force is an initiative promoted by President Daniels and the Board of Trustees to actively promote academic integrity at Purdue.”

Schwartz discussed how the Task Force is focused on, “…promoting a positive culture of academic integrity,” by encouraging students to focus more on the values of academic integrity rather than the punishments that happen when it occurs. This creates a more positive environment for the students of Purdue University. “Over the past two years, there have been many positive changes at Purdue. Many students will recognize the black and gold Honor Pledge plaques in buildings across campus along with the Honor Tracks near Elliot Hall of Music.” The task force has also incorporated the honor code in all syllabi and is incorporated Boiler Gold Rush with an Academic Success Presentation.

“Through creating and leading the Honor Pledge Task Force over the past two years, I have learned a lot about working with faculty and staff. I have learned the importance of understanding all the perspectives involved and recognizing the bigger picture in each situation.” Schwartz has enjoyed his time on the Task force and is looking forward to continuing to make positive changes throughout the university.
