Determination Creates Opportunities

By Madison Hire

A student in the Ag Econ department spent his Fall semester a little differently than most. Austin Erdman, a junior studying Agricultural Economics, spent his fall semester working as an intern full time for Caterpillar Defense in the Technical Marketing Department.

"Caterpillar Defense is Caterpillar's division that does business with government, military, and federal organizations," said Erdman.

This opportunity did not come easy, but with a lot of networking, attending different events and applying for different positions. Erdman used his determination to continuously attend events and introduce himself to company representatives.

Throughout Erdman's time this fall he assisted with many potential machinery sales. Also providing support for US Military and US Federal Civilian Agencies. He found the position challenging but really enjoyed pushing himself to learn more and become better at the position.

Hard work and determination paid off for Erdman, as he will be continuing to work for Caterpillar in the Summer of 2020.

Erdman encourages students to reach out to Caterpillar when they are on campus! Find out what opportunities they may have that would fit your passions and help you become successful.
