Romania: Animals and Hunger Food Security Service Learning
Apply now for this Maymester class. Join us for a four-week service learning course in beautiful Transylvania, working directly with Romanian livestock producers. This is an opportunity to learn by doing, while immersed in another culture. You will work with undergraduates from Banat University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in bi-national teams to solve real-world problems faced by Romanian livestock producers. It's hands-on and you will get dirty, but you will have a great time in a wonderful country, and you WILL make a difference.
This is a three-credit Maymester class which will be in the summer 2014 semester, but it requires a pre-requisite of ANSC 49500, Prep for Romania seminar, one credit in the spring semester, so the total is four credits. This class can contribute to your Leadership Development Certificate and also counts as a Capstone course for the Purdue Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

"Animals & Food Security Service Learning in Haiti"
The class that went to Haiti over Winter Break 2011-2012 has been hard at work raising funds and promoting their experiences. They gave a seminar on March 1 on lessons learned in Haiti, which was recorded (thanks to Dr. Radcliffe). They editied and created a video, which was submitted to the first-ever video competition sponsored by the American Society of Animal Science. View the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7tlWtWnqSU. The votes are in - the Haiti video placed 3rd in the competition and was recognized at the Joint Annual Meeting in July 2012! The three award-winning videos can be viewed on the ASAS YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/videosforASAS/videos.
