Extension Program

Dr. Schutz has impacted the Indiana dairy industry by:

  1. Organizing individuals to provide leadership to Indiana's growing dairy industry,

  2. Improving milk quality,

  3. Guiding dairy producers through major changes in dairy farm economic conditions,

  4. Engaging youth in preparation for dairy-related careers, and

  5. Improving the ability of dairy producers to select appropriate genetics for their herds.

Enthusiasm for extension has resulted in Dr. Schutz being named Departmental Extension Coordinator, a position he has held since 2004. Dr. Schutz was the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Sharvelle Award as Purdue's outstanding Extension Specialist and he has also been recognized for his efforts in working with diverse audiences and global awareness. In 2012, Dr. Schutz was recognized as the 4th recipient of the Steven Atkisson Indiana Dairy Service Award. His emergence as a leading Extension dairy specialist nationally has been recognized by his being named a member of the Dairy Extension Executive Council for USDA-Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service.
