Research Program

Comprehensive nutritional characterization of feed ingredients in diets of nonruminants is fundamental to our objective of improving the efficiency of lean meat production and minimizing environmental impact.

The research conducted in my laboratory emphasizes amino acid nutrition, utilization of energy, and mineral utilization by nonruminants. The areas of emphasis include nutritional evaluation of feedstuffs, amino acid availability and amino acid-energy relationships, efficiency of amino acid utilization, and mineral metabolism and excretion in pigs, chickens, and ducks. The total program is aimed at improving the efficiency of lean meat production in nonruminant animals and minimizing the flow of potentially detrimental levels of nutrients through animal waste to the environment.
