Willoughby Sales and Livestock Marketing
Entrepreneurship. Nothing describes Dan Willoughby better, being someone that saw the vision and ingenuity that he wanted to accomplish in the livestock industry and had to drive to complete his goal. Dan's life started on a small farm in Westfield, Indiana. Dan began "chores" when he was little – taking care of beef cattle, 4-H calves, and his grandfather's standard bred horses. These chores turned into a passion for Dan; with the help of Alan Myers, his Ag teacher, it turned into his lifelong career. However, Dan traded his passion for cattle, to sheep. In 1989, Dan earned a degree in agriculture education from Purdue University, where he thought he was going into a teaching career. Newly married to Carol Hamer Willoughby, Dan began teaching at a high school in southern Indiana's Crawford County. Through this process, he never lost sight of livestock markets. This became his side job. Over this time, Dan and Carol traveled many highways buying, selling, marketing and showing livestock. In 1993, their son Justin was born.
Three years after the birth of their son, Dan realized that he was making more in the livestock industry than he was teaching. After quitting his teaching career, Willoughby Sales was born. Dan attended an auctioneers' school in Texas and hosted Private Treaty sales between buyers and sellers. At that time, Dan sure didn't know the industry and business that he was creating. This soon became Willoughby Sales, CW Cattle Sales, W2 Auction Solutions, and LW Liquidations.
With this year being his 22nd sale, his Midwest Elite Show and Premier 10 have become the Nation's Largest Sheep Prospect weekend. Over these 22 years, the line-up has become some of the most renowned live sale venues in the nation which include: Premier 10, Premier Goat and Midwest Elite, Oklahoma Corporation, Oklahoma Goat Corporation, The Black and White Show and Sale, The All-American Nugget Show and Sale and multiple breed association sales.
Dan always had the drive and vision to assist people maximize their operation through social media and internet exposure. Thus, ShowBarnFix was born. From this point, Willoughby sales has continued to multiply to include Willoughby Pig Sales, Willoughby Goat Sales, and LW Liquidations – including more than 1700 online sales annually.
Some of Dan's awards include: member of the Purdue University Livestock Judging Team, 2013 induction into the Show Times Hall of Fame, recognized 2015 Best of Barn Award Winner for Willoughby Sales and Services at National Western Stock Show, 2017 Professional of the Year by the Indiana Beef Cattle Association for his lifetime commitment to the industry and work with the Hoosier Beef Congress, and serving as a member of North American International Livestock Exposition Sheep Show.
Congratulations and thank you Dan Willoughby for all your hard work and dedication to improve the livestock sale industry!
