Dr. Larry Horstman grew up in Southeastern Indiana as one of nine children. After receiving his DVM in 1974 he practiced in North Vernon, IN and in 1978 he returned to Purdue as a member of the Veterinary School faculty.

Dr. Horstman developed a fondness for reproduction and is widely recognized as an authority in theriogenology, and integrated the latest technology in to his teaching and research. He is a Diplomat in the American College of Theriogenologists and recently reported that his use of ultrasound was the most significant advancement during his career and the advancement of his field of study. He has provided technical advice to prominent breeders across the country and has been one of the most influential people on others that have received this award and honor.

Community minded, and always the teacher, "Doc" has had a significant impact of the education of the producers and exhibitors of the state. He has been the authority on reproduction at the IBEP Bull Tests and the State Fair champions testing. His impact and legacy reaches beyond the training of his vet students.

Despite having his arm in over 2 million cows, he understands several aspects of the beef industry through his partnership in Horstman Cattle Company and the Factory Direct Production Sales. Dr. Horstman believes that success is through customer service, respect and gratitude to everyone you contact.
