Dr. Roger Beachy, USDA Chief Scientist, has stated that a majority of the funding for the Agriculture & Food Research Initiative (AFRI) should be focused on large, highly focused, mission-integrated projects. In addition, Dr. Beachy has stated that competitive proposals will need to be truly integrated, i.e., two or more missions represented in the planning, conduct and delivery of the final work product. NIFA guidance for integrated AFRI projects states that optimal integration involves projects where research, extension and education components complement one another and are truly necessary for the ultimate success of the project. We believe that our culture of integrated research, teaching and extension programs at Purdue Agriculture uniquely positions us to be highly competitive in this evolving AFRI climate. The following resources should be helpful in conceptualizing, developing and procuring integrated grants from a variety of federal agencies.
