An educational morning devoted to learning about research production techniques being investigated at the Southwest Purdue Agricultural Center by Purdue Specialists and Extension Educators.
Featured speakers & topics include:
Session 1 at 9:00 A.M. – Economics of Marketing Produce, Dr. Maria Marshal, Associate Professor
Discussion of what the trends are with produce production and how to set prices for your local food stands and farmers markets.
Session 2 at 10:15 A.M. – High Tunnels and Everything Under the Sun, Dr. Shubin K. Saha, Assistant Professor, Vegetable Specialist
This program will focus on the high tunnel project that is in its second year of production. Current and past research includes variety evaluation for tomatoes as well as other high value crop alternatives such as colored bell peppers and specialty cucumbers. Dr. Saha will provide producers and growers with strategies that can help with overall productivity in protected agriculture.
Session 3 at 11:15 A.M. – Organic Heirloom Tomato Variety Trial and Vegetable Plots, Dr. Dan Egel, Extension Plant Pathologist
Research on vegetables at the Southwest Purdue Ag Center includes variety trials on heirloom organic tomatoes, muskmelon and watermelon, fungicide performance evaluations, experiments on critical disease and insect pests as well as work on fertility issues.
