As early as 1914, Indiana Vocational Agriculture Teachers were meeting and holding conferences to share ideas, and discuss problems as agriculture programs were starting in Indiana schools. In 1928 at Philadelphia, the NAVAT (National Association of Vocational Agriculture Teachers) was organized. Due to several reasons, NAVAT only was active 2 years.<\/p>\n

Vocational Agricultural Educators who had formed state associations for agricultural educators organized the National Vocational Agricultural Teachers’ Association (NVATA) in 1948 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Indiana Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association (IVATA) joined the NVATA and in 1997 at the annual NVATA convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, when the name of the national organization was changed to the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE), IVATA became the Indiana Association of Agricultural Educators (IAAE).<\/p>\n

More than 7,600 agricultural educators are members of NAAE. In its history, the Indiana Association of Agricultural Educators has had several members serve at the national level.<\/p>\n
