Hi! My name is Samantha Lee and I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. I earned a joint B.S. and M.S. degree in biotechnology from the University of Nevada, Reno in May 2011. Immediately following graduation, I started working as a research associate at Sierra Sciences while also teaching cell & molecular biology at Truckee Meadows Community College.
After working for a few years, I knew that I wanted to return to graduate school to become more involved in the scientific process of research. I joined the Ph.D. program in the Department of Biochemistry at Purdue University in August 2013. I chose Purdue Biochemistry because of the supportive and close-knit atmosphere of the department. The department has outstanding and extremely helpful faculty, students, and staff. After rotating in three different labs in my first year, I joined the Golden lab where we study catalytic RNAs.
Outside of research, I enjoy spending as much time as possible with my two dogs. I also enjoy snowboarding, running, hiking, cooking, reading, and meeting new people.
