I am Ziniu Zhou and I am originally from Songyang, China. I am married and my wife, Junli, and I have two sons ages four and two. When I’m not working, we both enjoy outdoor activities like fishing and hiking and enjoy playing ping pong.
In 2005, I graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) with a Ph.D. in Chemistry. My graduate research had been focused on Asymmetric Allylic Oxidation of Cyclic Olefins catalyzed by copper (I)-bisoxazoline, aryloxazoline and 2,2’-dipyridal complexes. Following graduation, I started a postdoctoral appointment at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) working with Prof. Martin O’Donnell and Prof. William Scott on Asymmetric Boron Alkylation of benzophenone imine of glycine alkyl esters and solid-phase synthesis of peptidomimetics, unnatural amino acid and methyl esters.
In March 2010, I joined the lab of Dr. Andy Tao in the Department of Biochemistry at Purdue as a postdoctoral research assistant working on the preparation of dendrimer-based nanomedicine via mass spectrometry-based proteomic strategies. We functionalize the dendrimer with small molecules to seek specific drug targets through profiling small molecule–protein interaction. By probing the ligand binding partner, we can discover unknown protein functions, identify the molecular mechanisms of drug action, and obtain information for optimization of the lead compounds. Our long term goal is to develop the capability for the delivery of the dendrimer nanomedicine into living cells to probe protein targets in vivo, and finally elucidate the molecular signaling pathways and provide therapeutic agents for drug discovery.
