Arnold Kent Balls Award
This award was established in 1969 to honor the memory of Professor A.K. Balls (1891-1966) whose scientific achievements and personal virtues have made biochemistry a richer discipline. The award is given annually to a graduate student in biochemistry approaching completion of their predoctoral program who exhibits unusual potential for significant contributions to biochemical research. The purpose of the award is to foster among graduate students the spirit of scholarliness, research, and intellectual curiosity, which was so well exemplified by the many contributions of Professor Balls.
Henry Moses Award
Established in 2008 by Dr. Bradley Sheares to honor fellow Purdue Department of Biochemistry alumnus Dr. Henry Moses for his contributions to research, education and service. Dr. Moses taught undergraduate biochemistry to Dr. Sheares at Fisk University and played an influential role in his decision to pursue his doctorate at Purdue. This award is given annually to a graduate student in the Department of Biochemistry based on a scientific paper that the applicant has authored that demonstrates his/her productivity and excellence in scientific research.
Henry Weiner Biochemistry Travel Fund
Established in 2012 in memory of Dr. Henry A. Weiner, professor of biochemistry from 1966-2010. The award is given annually to help defray the costs of a graduate student or postdoc to attend a scientific meeting.
Beach Travel Grant
Established in 2006 from the Beach Family Endowment. The award is given annually to help defray the costs of a graduate student to attend a scientific meeting.
Outstanding Teaching Assistant
Established in 1970. The award is given annually to commend an outstanding teaching assistant in the Department of Biochemistry.
Don Carlson Senior Researcher Award
Established in 2011. The award is given annually to a postdoctoral fellow, research associate or staff scientist to recognize their contributions as full time research personnel to the scientific goals of the Department of Biochemistry.
