Postdoctoral Research Assistant
My name is Zhiguo Li from Shandong, China. I received my Ph.D. in Institute of Genetics and Development Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and I joined the Liu lab in May 2011.
My project focuses on Polo-like kinase 1 (Plk1), the enzyme that was over-expressed in various human tumors. By using of mass spectrometry we are able to identify several potential Plk1 substrates, and some of them have well established roles in tumorigenesis. By analyzing Plk1-associated phosphorylation of these cancer-specific proteins, we will understand how Plk1 functions as an oncogene, eventually aiding in development of novel therapeutic avenues.
I am very happy to be a researcher in this field. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my wife and playing recreational basketball.
