Funding

The department funds graduate students in a variety of ways.

Fellowships: The Purdue University Graduate School offers fellowships for students who demonstrate high academic achievement. See more information about the fellowships they offer. The fellowships are very competitive so it is best to submit your application and supporting documents by December for a fall admission.

Assistantships: The majority of our admitted students receive research assistantships through individual faculty members. That is why we encourage you to browse our faculty research profiles to find the research that interests you. Please feel free to contact faculty directly, as they will be able to tell you if they have an opening for the session you will be applying.

We offer a small number of departmentally-funded research assistantships for students who demonstrate superior academic achievement and scholarly abilities. Those who receive these assistantships have the option of starting directly with a faculty member, or rotating through three faculty labs during their first semester. These rotations are opportunities to learn more about the different research in the department. At the end of the semester, you will be matched with a faculty member in which to start work on your degree.

Teaching assistantships are also available, but are typically reserved for graduate students already in the department.

If you have outside financial support, we encourage you to contact faculty members you are interested in working with. You can find out if faculty members have available space in their labs, and what they are working on currently.

More information about the department's graduate programs is available in the Graduate Manual (pdf file).
