Botany and Plant Pathology

  • Graduate Research Assistant

Carol Bvindi is a Ph.D. student under the supervision of Dr. Tesfaye Mengiste researching on the role of tomato histone methyltransferases in regulating plant immunity to bacterial and fungal pathogens. The overall goal of her research is to characterise histone methyltransferases in terms of disease resistance function, histone methylation state they catalyse and how the methylation patterns are translated to a functional plant defense response in tomato. This will contribute to the breadth of knowledge in epigenetic regulation of plant immunity in tomato and lay a basis open for further analysis on the interplay between histone lysine methylation and regulation of other plant growth and development traits in tomato.
