  • Graduate Research Assistant

Jodi Boe is a M.S. student with Dr. Bryan Young studying the practical implications of weeds with low-level resistance to herbicides.  More specifically, Jodi is investigating if the herbicide resistance mechanism can be defeated by the high concentrations of herbicide that germinating weed seedlings are exposed to with ‘preemergence’ soil residual herbicide applications compared with ‘postemergence’ applications when the weeds are much larger.  The low-level resistance to herbicides in site of action groups 2, 5, and 27 will be targeted for this research in specific populations of waterhemp, horseweed, and giant ragweed.  The ultimate goal of her research is to identify whether or not these herbicides, which may be ineffective as postemergence herbicides, can still contribute some level of weed control applied preemergence and, therefore, be considered an effective component of an overall weed management plan.
