Martha Patricia Romero Luna

Martha P. Romero is a Ph.D. candidate studying under Dr. Wise. She is investigating Diplodia ear rot (DER), a persistent corn ear rot in the Midwest. The overall objectives of Martha’s research are to: develop a molecular technique for the identification of Stenocarpella maydis, causal agent of DER, determine if S. maydis populations differ according to geographic areas, evaluate four corn production systems for the control of DER, and determinate the survival period of S. maydis under common corn production system in Indiana. The ultimate goal of this research is to improve the understanding of S. maydis, and the establishment of accurate disease management practices. Expected graduation: May 2016.
