for 14 October 2002

Poison Ivy

Carrie Lapaire, Lab Technician, Purdue University

These poison ivy pictures show the typical strangling roots and runners as well as the pretty, and pretty poisonous, leaves in their autumn color. All parts of the poison ivy can induce allergic reactions and care should be taken when removing this weed. Poison ivy should not be burned, as the oils can volatilize and be inhaled. Remember the saying, "Leaflets three, let it be". For more information on poison ivy, please see these PDF publications: DGP144 and HO218.
