Red Hot Poker 'Pineapple Popsicle'

Mike Dana, Professor, Horticulture & Landscape Architecture, Purdue University

As late as October 10, one of the newer Red Hot Poker hybrids continues to provide intense color in the landscape of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Here ‘Pineapple Popsicle’ from Terra Nova Nursery blooms profusely as our warm 2013 fall has provided excellent conditions for its flowering. This is a day-neutral cultivar so it may be expected to bloom from early summer through late fall, as long as warm conditions prevail and other cultural conditions are met. Kniphofia hybrids generally need excellent root-zone drainage, especially in the winter, to be successful perennials.
