At This Holiday Time...

Mike Dana, Extension Landscape Horticulture Specialist, Department of Horticulture & Landscape Architecture, Purdue University

At this holiday time, are you looking for shopping suggestions for that gardener in your life? Does your gardener struggle with hedge shearing, with getting the edges straight and the sides plumb? Then you may want to consider this laser guided, 10 foot long, tractor-mounted hedge trimmer! Finish hedge shearing in a fraction of the time and with a lot less back-breaking labor. And you’ll be the envy of the neighborhood, . . . everyone will be asking to borrow your machine! O sure, you may need to hire some neighbor boys to help with the clean-up. But its bound to cost you a lot less than it did Louis XIV!

(Actually, this tool is in use at Louis XIV’s Versailles, near Paris, France, managing 1000s of meters of hedges and sheared trees (bosquets) in the absence of legions of low-wage French peasants to do the work by hand as was done in the 1690s.)
