The Approach of Fall

Mike Dana, Department of Horticulture & Landscape Architecture, Purdue University

The fruiting of our native large shrub, Blackhaw Viburnum, Viburnum prunifolium, the fruits of which progress from summer green through this red stage to deep blue/purple reminds us that fall is fast approaching. This plant provides us humans with attractive white flowers in the spring and showy fruits for a while until they are eaten by birds.
