Engagement projects with the Farm at Prophetstown

Program Description

The Department of Animal Sciences is engaging the community through education programs and having a presence at the Farm at Prophetstown. Increase visibility within the community and increase the value of educational programs offered with community partners. Community engagement is important for increasing public sentiment and knowledge base on a variety of topics. The animal science specialists have been working with the Farm at Prophetstown to increase the educational programming that can offered to the farm visitors as well as increasing the visibility of the Purdue Animal Sciences Department.

Outcomes

The animal science specialists have participated in the Homesteading and Country Fair programs at the Farm at Prophetstown. Individual programs were offered to visitors and attendees on those weekends to learn more about pigs, poultry and animal welfare. Through the two programs, over 275 people have interacted, asked questions and gained knowledge from the animal science specialists.
