Job Summary
The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University is seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic Natural Resources Training Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating professional development opportunities for conservation professionals in Indiana. You will work closely with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Purdue Extension, and other conservation partners to create educational opportunities that enhance the delivery of conservation programs on private lands.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Collaborate with NRCS, Purdue FNR Extension Specialists, and other partners to identify and address training needs for conservation professionals
  • Plan, design, and implement statewide training programs on natural resources topics including Native Warm-Season Grass Establishment and Management, Forestry, Forest Management for Wildlife, and Prescribed Fire Awareness, Planning, and Application
  • With general guidance from staff manager and extension specialists, facilitate and deliver training sessions, which may include asynchronous online modules, synchronous webinars, in-person trainings, and the development of supporting materials such as videos and publications
  • Create and manage online learning modules and webinars to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of training programs
  • Contribute to the development and distribution of resources to support current and future training programs, including publications, videos, podcasts, and webinars
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make recommendations for improvements

What We're Looking For

  • Master’s degree in Natural Resources, Forestry, Wildlife Management, Agriculture, or related field
  • 1 year of experience in natural resources management, wildlife, forestry, conservation, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of agricultural operations, forestry, wildlife, and natural resources conservation
  • Familiarity with Farm Bill Programs and associated conservation practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and partners
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Willingness to travel for in-person training sessions
  • Ability to work outside in adverse conditions, lift or carry 25 to 50 lbs frequently or up to 60 lbs. occasionally
  • Valid U.S. or Canadian driver’s license

Nice to Have

  • Experience with prescribed fire planning and application
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering training programs
  • Experience in habitat management practices
  • Previous experience in an extension or outreach education role
  • Professional certifications including Certified Wildlife Biologist, Certified Forester, Certified Prescribed Burn Manager, and Certified Wildland Firefighter
  • Proficiency in using online learning platforms and creating digital training materials
