Assistant Coordinator – Baywatchers Monitoring Program

Temporary – Summer 2025

The Buzzards Bay Coalition seeks a seasonal Assistant Coordinator (May–August) to support its Baywatchers Monitoring Program and other watershed monitoring efforts. This role involves fieldwork, lab work, data entry, and volunteer coordination to gather high-quality water data for conservation and restoration efforts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with water quality monitoring (collecting samples, measuring salinity, dissolved oxygen, etc.).
  • Maintain and calibrate monitoring equipment and programmable sensors.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteer Baywatchers (180+ volunteers).
  • Manage data entry and quality control for collected samples.
  • Support additional watershed projects (stream flow, fish monitoring, salt marsh studies).
  • Help with community outreach and education events as needed.
Qualifications:
  • At least two years of college (preferably in environmental science).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with volunteers.
  • Comfortable with fieldwork in various conditions (heat, humidity, water, carrying equipment).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed).
  • Familiarity with Buzzards Bay, Excel, and data entry is a plus.
  • Must pass a CORI background check and follow safety protocols.
Compensation:
  • $18.50 per hour, averaging 40 hours per week.
  • Travel reimbursement (IRS mileage rate).
  • Low-cost housing may be available at a BBC Reserve property.
  • No health insurance or additional benefits.
