Description: Join the Prairie Research Institute (PRI) in collaboration with the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant (IISG) and the Great Lakes Higher Education Consortium (GLHEC) as an Associate Research Scientist specializing in Coastal Resilience. This role involves impactful research, outreach program enhancement, and collaboration fostering Great Lakes coastal resilience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Lead research on Great Lakes coastal resilience.
• Serve as principal investigator, managing grant funding and producing reports.
• Identify and pursue externally funded research opportunities.
• Facilitate multidisciplinary teamwork and engage with external partners.
• Develop and lead comprehensive outreach programs for various stakeholders.
• Communicate research results through diverse channels.
• Provide technical guidance to management agencies involved in coastal resilience.
• Ph.D. in relevant field with 5+ years of related experience.
• Experience in Great Lakes or ocean coastal settings.
• Knowledge of protocols, techniques, and equipment used by coastal scientists.
• Strong data analysis and communication skills.
• Interest and ability to develop and execute coastal resilience outreach programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in environmental extension and outreach.
• Operation of boats or service as a boat crew member on large lakes.
• Familiarity with nature-based engineering solutions for community climate resilience.
Work Environment:
• Combination of office and field settings.
• Sedentary work with computer use and occasional fieldwork.
• Travel required, including overnight stays and possible adverse conditions.
• Position involves domestic and international travel.
Appointment Information:
• Full-time academic professional appointment.
• Salary commensurate with experience, starting at $110,000.
