2025 Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant Summer Internship Program

Pay Rate: $17/hour, 37.5 hours per week
Internship Duration: June 2 – July 25, 2025 (8 weeks minimum)
Location: Positions based at Purdue University or University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Program Overview
The Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant (IISG) Summer Internship Program offers undergraduate students hands-on experience addressing social and environmental challenges impacting coastal communities. Interns will work on projects in areas like green stormwater infrastructure, microplastics, sustainable communities, and youth education.

Internships include research, communications, and outreach activities, with opportunities to attend professional events. All interns participate in weekly professional development sessions (approximately 8 hours total).

Eligibility
  • Current undergraduate students in accredited 2- or 4-year U.S. colleges/universities.
  • U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or active F-1 visa holders.
  • Past IISG interns are not eligible.
  • Housing and transportation are the intern’s responsibility.

  • Cover Letter (1–2 pages): Explain your interest, relevant experience, and career goals.
  • Resume/CV (max 2 pages).
  • Unofficial Transcript(s).
  • Letter of Recommendation (from a professor, employer, or advisor, max 1 page).
  • Internship Preferences (rank your choices).
  • How you heard about the program.
Expectations
  • Work 37.5 hours/week for 8 weeks.
  • Attend 4 professional development trainings.
  • Submit a final project summary and participate in social media activities.
