Invasive Species Network Seasonal Crew Member (3 Positions)
Summary:
Join the Invasive Species Network (ISN) as a Seasonal Crew Member to support efforts in controlling invasive plant species across Benzie, Grand Traverse, Leelanau, and Manistee counties. Work with ISN staff and partners on projects funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and other grants.
Details:
- Compensation: $16–$18/hour, up to 40 hours/week for up to 18 weeks (extension possible).
- Start Date: Flexible, preferred May 5, 2025.
- Location: ISN office in Traverse City, MI, with fieldwork across four counties.
- Control invasive plant species using mechanical and chemical methods.
- Survey and manage invasive species in varied terrain and weather conditions.
- Collaborate with ISN staff, partners, and volunteers.
- Education: Degree in natural resources or related field (preferred) OR high school diploma with one season of relevant experience.
- Experience: Natural resource management and use of landscaping tools.
- Outdoor fieldwork in varying conditions.
- Strong organizational and teamwork abilities.
- Communication skills (verbal, written, English).
- Basic computer proficiency (Windows; ArcGIS preferred).
- Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Other: Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle (mileage reimbursed), and willingness to travel/work overnight as needed.
Fieldwork includes uneven terrain, boggy areas, extreme weather, and lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs). Applicants must have proper attire for field conditions.
