Park Allies Greenspace Lead


Position Details:

Term: 450-1700 hours (3-10 months) from September 2024 – August 2025
Reports to: Greenspace Administrator and Grant Administrator (AmeriCorps Director)
Site Supervisor: Greenspace Administrator


Position Summary:
This role supports the City of West Lafayette’s Park Allies program, focusing on urban tree canopy and park restoration. The Greenspace Lead will engage in hands-on nursery work, lead community service projects, and educate the public on conservation efforts. This position offers training in arboriculture, conservation, and public service, ideal for those looking to develop leadership and environmental skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with park development and environmental stewardship.
  • Lead conservation practices such as invasive plant removal and native planting.
  • Oversee service projects, ensuring timely and efficient completion.
  • Coordinate logistics and mentor a diverse team.
  • Promote environmental education and tree conservation within the community.
Education/Skills/Experience:
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience in project management and community engagement.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS or mapping platforms is a plus.
  • Must be 18+, U.S. citizen or legal resident, with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass background checks.
Safety Requirements:
  • Follow all safety protocols and report hazards.
  • Wear PPE and operate equipment safely.
  • Participate in safety training.

Term Schedule:
450-1700 hours (3-10 months) from September 2024 – August 2025. Primarily Monday-Friday, with some evenings and weekends.

Benefits:
Living allowance up to $25,760.
AmeriCorps Segal Education Award up to $7,395 upon completion.

Service Environment:
Primarily outdoor work in various weather conditions. Members must maintain a positive attitude and follow safety precautions.

Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, walking, and lifting (up to 50 pounds).
Ability to work in varied environments, including steep terrain.

Certificates/Licenses:
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
