TMACOG- Water Quality Planner

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Director of Water Quality Planning
Supervises: May oversee other staff

Position Summary: The Water Quality Planner is a key figure in developing TMACOG’s Areawide Water Quality Management Plan (AWQMP or 208 Plan). Using technical, analytical, and communication skills, they engage stakeholders to modernize northwest Ohio’s water quality planning.

Essential Functions:
• Integrate water infrastructure planning with environmental principles
• Coordinate committees and facilitate working groups
• Identify data needs and design analysis methods
• Gather, manage, and analyze relevant datasets
• Develop conclusions and recommendations based on analyses
• Communicate complex concepts, prepare documents, reports, and visual materials
• Develop and implement projects, meet reporting requirements
• Research and communicate water quality innovations, policies, and funding opportunities
• Give briefings/presentations to officials, public, and stakeholders
• Coordinate training events for water professionals
• Educate on water quality issues and workforce needs
• Oversee project work of other staff members

Education/Experience:
• B.S. or B.A. in environmental planning, environmental sciences, or civil/environmental engineering required. Advanced degree, license, or certification preferred
• 5+ years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience
• Experience with AWQMP/208 Plans preferred

Competencies:
• Apply planning processes to develop regional plans
• Familiarity with Clean Water Act, state/federal regulations, and funding programs
• Knowledge of climate resiliency, environmental justice, and emerging contaminants
• Working knowledge of water treatment, source water, stormwater, and nonpoint source pollution
• Analytical skills for tabular and GIS datasets
• Coordinate staff and stakeholder groups
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Time management, organizational skills, and prioritization
• Teamwork and leadership skills

Physical Demands/Requirements: Work is typically at a desk; intermittent sitting, standing; occasional movement or lifting of objects up to 30 lbs. Regular communication in person, over the phone, or via email.

Work Environment/Conditions: Office setting, occasional work outdoors. Expected travel to meetings inside TMACOG region and other parts of Ohio.

Salary and Benefits:
• Commensurate with experience
• Titles and starting salaries considered:
Planner II: $50,000 – $60,000
Planner III: $60,000 – $70,000
Project Manager: $70,000 – $75,000
