Governor's Summer Intern - IDEM Watershed Assessment and Planning


Location: Indianapolis, IN (IDEM Shadeland Office)
Pay: $16.24/hour (no degree) or $17.24/hour (with bachelor’s degree)


Role Overview:
Gain hands-on field and office experience supporting IDEM’s mission to protect Indiana’s environment. Work includes sample collection (fish, water, habitat), data analysis, and equipment maintenance. Expect physical fieldwork, travel (51-75%), and collaboration on impactful environmental projects.

Requirements:
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate program (1+ year completed).
  • Coursework in chemistry and related fields preferred.
  • Strong organizational, research, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel/stay overnight (June-August).
Highlights:
  • Assist with field sampling (streams, rivers, lakes).
  • Conduct data QA/QC and habitat assessments.
  • Use and maintain specialized equipment.
  • Receive safety training and personal protective equipment.
