Wildland Fire Youth Educator
Location: Bend, OR (Discover Your Forest, in partnership with BLM)
Overview:
The Wildland Fire Youth Educator will lead and implement wildland fire curriculum for youth, reaching around 3,000 students annually in Central Oregon through field trips, classroom lessons, and hands-on experiences. This role includes working with volunteers and public land partners to deliver programs across Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver a wildland fire curriculum aligned with science standards for grades 2-12 on public lands.
- Set strategic goals with the Discover Your Forest team to support JEDAI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Accessibility, and Inclusion) initiatives.
- Collaborate with schools and organizations to engage underserved communities.
- Train and coordinate education volunteers and oversee events with BLM, including Jr. Fire Ranger and career camps.
- Manage program scheduling, lesson prep, field guidance, and follow-up evaluations.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental science, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in teaching or environmental education.
- Strong communication, curriculum planning, and leadership skills.
- Comfort with outdoor work in varied conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and CPR/First Aid certified (within 3 months of employment).
- Compensation: $55,000/year + benefits (health, dental, retirement, vacation, sick leave, 12 paid holidays).
