Timber Sales 101 - Hardwood University Workshop

This workshop is set up to discuss with private landowners and industry professionals various ways in which to market timber and the industries, agencies, and professionals involved.

This presentation will summarize various considerations when selling or marketing timber. Will provide basic background and introduce some tax implications.

10:30 – 10:45 How can a DNR district forester help you?
(Travis Dunn, Forester, District 11)

10:45 – 11:15 The role of a private forestry consultant and what to expect when a logger comes.

11:00 – 11:30 Working with an industry forester and logger.
(Matt Leibering)

11:30 – 11:45 Experience of a woodland owner after a recent timber sale.

11:45 – 12:00 Discussion/questions.

1:00 – 1:30 Update on carbon credits.

Carbon credit issues have recently been introduced. What are they and how do they relate to you?

1:30 – 3:00 Field trip to nearby SIPAC woods. Practical observation and discussion of marking up trees for harvest, etc.
