Using Styles

Most of the Purdue Extension Word and Publisher templates come with recommended styles. That means you don't have to remember what font or type size you used for a heading, body copy, or anything else.

To use the styles, simply select the text you want to change, then go to the Word or Publisher style menus to apply the style you want. Instructions for finding the style menus appear below.

For Word

  • Highlight the text you want to change.
  • Make your selection from the style menu (see Figure 1).
  • The style menu is on the "Formatting" toolbar.

If you don't know how to bring up the "Formatting" tool bar, go to the "View" menu at the top of your screen, select "Toolbars," then select "Formatting."

For Publisher

  • Go to the "Format" menu at the top of your screen and select "Styles and Formatting" (Figure 2).
  • The "Styles and Formatting" menu will appear (Figure 3).
  • Highlight the text you want to change.
  • Click on the style you want.
