Roberto Cazzolla Gatti, Ph.D., is a Research Associate at the Forest Advanced Computing & Artificial Intelligence (FACAI) Lab and Coordinator of the Global Forest Biodiversity Initiative (GFBI) Hub at the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources of the Purdue University in the USA.

Moreover, he serves as the Head and Scientific coordinator of the Master’s Degree (MSc) in Biodiversity and as an Associate Professor of Biodiversity and Ecology at the Biological Institute of the Tomsk State University in Russia.

His scientific research focuses on the theoretical and empirical study of global ecology and biodiversity (with applications in evolutionary biology and ethology) and the environmental physiology of animals and plants (with application in climate change biology).

He earned in Italy a MSc in Environmental and Evolutionary Biology, a II level MSc in Global Environmental Protection and a Ph.D. in Forest Ecology. He is a member of the IUCN, served as environmental scientist at the FAO of the UN and collaborated with the WWF for many years.

He is an advisory board member of Ecological Modelling journal and the scientific director of Villaggio Globale – Trimestrale di Ecologia. He published several scientific papers and more than 200 articles on popular science. He also works as a freelance wildlife photo-reporter. Furthermore, he is the author of a novel, 2 non-fiction (essay) books, 2 naturalistic guidebooks, 5 photobooks and 3 academic monographs on biodiversity in Italian, English and Russian.
