Many different risk-based frameworks have been implemented to set priorities for food safety research, outreach, and policy across the global food system. This is the second webinar in a two-part series hosted by the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Safety and featured researchers sharing their experience applying risk-based approaches to food safety challenges in Latin America and Asia.<\/p>\n View Recording<\/a> Date<\/strong>: June 7, 2023 In recent years, risk-based approaches have emerged as strategic tools for setting priorities for food safety research, policy, and interventions. Driven by data, risk-based approaches can focus resources on pathogens, value chains, and food safety practices with the greatest impact on human health and nutrition. This webinar, hosted by the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Safety, provided an introduction to using risk-based methods in food safety and was followed by a second webinar highlighting case studies that applied these approaches.<\/p>\n View Recording<\/strong><\/a> Date<\/strong>: August 18, 2022 During the pandemic\u2019s first year, a global task force of food safety experts was created using a \u201ctrain the trainer\u201d approach to provide risk mitigation outreach for the food system workforce in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Kenya, Nepal, and Senegal. Through live, online office hours and downloadable, translated resources, the team countered misinformation and shared best practices to keep food businesses open. The global food system continues to face challenges from conflict, climate change, and other disruptions. In addition to causing acute disease and death, foodborne illnesses can result in long-term health consequences and have a higher impact on vulnerable populations, including pregnant women, children, the sick, and the elderly. The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Safety leverages research and expertise in food safety, food production, nutrition, and international development to identify and mitigate the root causes of foodborne illness within food systems. The panelists in the third installment in our webinar series shared their insights and answered questions on food safety and breaking cycles of disease and malnutrition.<\/p>\n View Recording<\/a><\/strong> Date<\/strong>: November 19, 2020 Human and animal health are tightly linked: Foodborne pathogens and parasites are persistent public health hazards, and an estimated 60% of human pathogens and 75% of emerging diseases originate from animals according to a recent report by the UN Environment Programme and ILRI. The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Safety leverages research and expertise in food safety, food production, nutrition, and international development to identify the root causes of foodborne illness within supply chains.
