March 8th, 2021 Alqosh Sesame Oil Recall

On March 8th, 2021 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a recall involving Mediterranean Food Inc. of Warren, MI. They are recalling their sesame oil because it can potentially be contaminated with salmonella. Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause serious infection in individuals with compromised immune systems like pregnant women, young children and elderly citizens. The symptoms of a typical Salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. Other symptoms of a Salmonella infection can include nausea, vomiting or headaches. These symptoms can occur between six hours to six days after eating the contaminated food, and they can last between four and seven days. If a consumer has healthcare concerns, contact your local healthcare provider. Currently there are no reported illnesses. The product was sold in 2lb plastic jars. One the side of the jar you can find the lot number (16082020) and a production date of 08/16/2020. This product was distributed to retail stores in Michigan. The effected lot was distributed to stores between 11/06/2020 to 12/10/2020. If you have this product, the company advises that it should not be consumed.
