Dr. Richard Linton has been appointed to the Advisory Council of the Global Food Safety Institute (GFSI). GFSI, the only independent global network for consumer goods retailers and manufacturers worldwide, is a collaboration of leading food safety experts. The GFSI Advisory Council is composed of 12-16 members and it supports and provides expertise to the GFSI Board in their decision making process.
Dr. Linton was also recognized at a ceremony on March 5, 2010 as the Outstanding Alumnus in the College of Agriculture and Life Science at Virginia Tech for 2009-2010, representing the Department of Food Science and Technology at Virginia Tech.
Since joining the faculty of Purdue Food Science in 1994, Dr. Linton has established himself as a national and worldwide leader in food safety. He has provided significant leadership efforts for the National Alliance for Food Safety and Security, the National Registry for Food Safety and Security, and the Global Food Safety Institute. He is co-author for the Food Marketing Institutes' Guide to Food Safety, which is the leading food safety training textbook used by the retail food industry. Besides serving as a faculty member at Purdue, Dr. Linton is the Director of the Center for Food Safety Engineering, and Associate Director of Agricultural Research Programs for the College of Agriculture. Dr. Linton is also a Fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists.
