Steve Gauger is responsible for assisting the Department Head of Food Science in the administrative management of all department functions that involve faculty, staff, students, industry officials, and the general public. Duties:

  • coordinates and organizes the calendar and travel schedule of the department head
  • helps to manage the Industrial Associates Program, which promotes interaction between the department and the food industry; organizes two meetings each year; has responsibility for billing of membership fees
  • serves as department’s Affirmative Action and diversity officer and departmental liaison with University administrative offices
  • coordinates preparation of faculty promotion documents and administrative/professional advancement documents
  • responsible for working with search committee chairs in planning and organizing departmental faculty searches
  • oversees maintenance of the Food Science Building, assigns office space to staff members, and is responsible for building key security
  • organizes and plans visits to the department by industry officials, academic officials, media representatives, and international scientists
