Link

www.extension.org/article/18355

Description

The USDA has established a National Organic Program (NOP) Rule to set and enforce uniform standards for both producing and handling agricultural and processed food products labeled as organic.  Chemicals used in organic postharvest operations must comply with the NOP rules.  Most synthetic inputs are prohibited; those that are allowed may be used only with restrictions.
