About This Site

The Environmental Informatics class was dveoloped as the educational component of Dr. Cherkauer's NASA New Investigators Program (NIP) project. As part of his proposal he documented a need to teach new graduate students the skills to work with the ever growing volume and complexity of datasets becoming available for research in environmental science and engineering. As technology is constantly changing, introducing new and more powerful tools for research, course content needs regular updates, and even students who have finished the course need reminders or introductions to newly available tools and methodologies. Most of the tools use to teach are not available once the class session has ended, so Dr. Cherkauer developed the Environmental Informatics Wiki page to provide a central location for helpful information that would be available outside of the class.

As of Spring 2024, Purdue University no longer supports the Confluence Wiki system that previously hosted the Environmental Informatics Wiki. The pages are now managed through GitHub, with formatting by MkDocs, and hosted directly on the Purdue University web serves.
