Not specific to any model or calibration system. Required reading before starting your first calibration.

Selection of Metrics

Toward improved calibration of hydrologic models (Gupta et al., 1998) - Introduction to the qualities of some of the most common metrics used for calibration, including what aspects of the hydrograph they are sensitive. Should be read before selecting metrics, since their advice is to make sure that you have metrics measuring different aspects of model fit (peaks, bias, variability, etc)

Decomposition of the mean squared error and NSE performance criteria: Implications for improving hydrological modelling (Gupta et al., 2009) - A new formulation of common metrics is derived that decomposes them into a single metric that is equally sensitive to different aspects of model fit. Suggested for use when a multi-objective calibration process is not possible.
